Superfood Seeds

Chia and Flax seeds have become more and more prevalent over the years, and are now in the pantry of many, on menus, etc- but do you know their benefits?Yes, they are deemed as Superfoods, but what does that mean?  Both Chia and Flax seeds are highly nutritious and offer a range of benefits to your health- and are easy to use and incorporate day to day!

Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds are a complete protein and offer fiber and healthy omega 3 fatty acids - making them a powerhouse on their own to add to your meals or snacks. Chia seeds are a great source of fiber which is great for digestion, your gut health, and helping to slow the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream. Fiber can also help you feel longer, and may promote satiety, and some studies show that this can also aid in the lowering of LDL Cholesterol. Chia seeds are rich in Omega 3- fatty acids, important for brain and heart health and also contain many antioxidants! These seeds are thought to sometimes help provide energy as well!

Flaxseeds

Similar to Chia seeds, Flaxseeds are rich in healthy fats (Alpha-linolenic acid) , and also are a source of protein and fiber! Where chia seeds have flax slightly beat in their fiber content, flaxseeds also have various antioxidants and minerals, but both have pretty comparable benefits! Both are easy to add to snacks or meals, such as topping yogurt, mixing into oatmeal or smoothies, or ground flaxseeds into granola or baked goods! Ground Flax will have a nuttier taste- and chia has a unique consistency, especially if soaked! Play around with both, and see how they feel. One may digest better person to person or you may prefer a taste or texture! (Remember whenever adding in a fiber source, also increase your water intake to prevent bloating, and not to over do it. )
