Heart Health for Valentine’s
Happy Love Day! Valentines Day is today, and the month of February is filled with hearts, red, pink and themes of love! Despite your plans for the Holiday, it is a great reminder to think about your heart - and your heart health! Oftentimes, we start thinking about our heart health later in life, but it's never too soon to take care of yourself and act out of prevention, now, instead of treatment, later.
Here are some things to consider for your heart health. Many of these you will find for any healthy lifestyle meals and snacks!
Fish, high in omega 3 fatty acids (Tuna, Salmon, Trout)
Lean meats and proteins
Vegetables, especially leafy greens (spinach, collard greens, kale, cabbage), broccoli, carrots
Fruits
Nuts, seeds and legumes
Limiting: Saturated fats and added sugars, excess sodium ! - opt for foods higher in unsaturated fats and lower in saturated fats (from meat, cheese, etc!)
Lifestyle: get out and walk! Activity and exercise is great for your health, and mixing in some cardio to your resistance workouts is especially great for your heart. Cardio doesn’t need to be intense to be beneficial, so get in what you can. An afternoon walk, a jog, or spin class! Remember to take care of yourself and practice self love, especially during this month of love! How will you best take care of yourself?
