FALL-ing Back into Routine
The seasons are shifting, and Summer has come to a bittersweet close. Depending on where you live, the weather may be cooling off with a crispness in the air, and daylight is starting to dwindle. Whether it's back to school, a slow down of social events and travel- the Fall often feels like a good reset in one’s lifestyle.
Regardless of how busy you are or aren’t- the change of seasons is a great time to identify what is working for you, what isn’t, and establish what changes you may want to make moving forward.
Fall is an amazing time to eat seasonally! Take advantage of your local farmers markets while they are still going, and the weather isn’t too cold! Squash, brussel sprouts, cabbage, beets, carrots, apples, pears, cranberries are in season and so fun to incorporate into your diet and meals while being so beneficial for you!
Peppers and some citrus are also great to reach for! Not only are they great for you, they are filled with Vitamin C that our bodies can use this time of year to help our immune system.
Try to slow your morning caffeine! The cooler weather can start to dehydrate our skin and bodies, so really aim to work on your water before that nice cup of coffee. Keep a glass of water by your bedside or coffee machine to remind you to work on a glass before coffee.
Get outside! Take advantage of the cooler temps and prioritize a morning or afternoon walk outside. An afternoon walk is an amazing way to wake up or break up the day after work, and a morning walk outside can help your body align with your natural circadian rhythm.
Enjoy some warmer meals! As much as I love the ease of a Summer salad, or freshly cut vegetables, some bodies digest vegetables ( especially cruciferous veggies) better if they are sautéed, or roasted. Fall weather and Fall meals are great times to take advantage of this nourishing preparation and pay attention to how your stomach responds. If you need tips for roasting vegetables, don’t be hesitant to play around with spices and seasonings! Not to mention, you can roast many varieties at once, all easily cleaned up, and they keep well to add to different meals throughout the week!
Fall offers a great time to cook at home and try new recipes, or get back into your old favorites! While you are in the kitchen, try cooking a new protein or vegetable every few weeks, diversifying your plate and palate.
Make sure you are taking time for yourself, and listen to what you are needing and whether that is a workout with friends, reading at night instead of TV, an earlier bedtime, or slowing down your social schedule, make yourself a priority ( especially after the Summer and before the Holiday season catches us!)
